5 Beach Hangouts That Will Quickly Become Some Of Your Favorite Spots In Accra

By Karel Mensah

Ghana has many coastal settlements: towns and cities built across the vast and cinematic shoreline. As a result, you have waterside resorts that perfectly take advantage of this landscape to create unique experiences. Accra has several beachside hideouts that can quickly become some of your favorite all-time spots for meaningful quality time alone or with friends and family.

1. Bojo Beach Resort

Nothing says vacation quite like a visit to the Bojo Beach Resort. Bojo Beach is only about thirty minutes from the airport or the Accra city center if there’s no traffic. You can find Bojo Beach where the Densu River meets the Atlantic Ocean with a small fishing community as its neighbor. Once in the resort, you have to take a boat ride across the Densu River in order to reach the beach. Once on the beach, there are a wide range of activities to keep you immersed and immediately disconnected from everyday life.

You can enjoy some of the beach-side activities like jet skiing, beach soccer, volleyball and more. And when it’s time to treat yourself after all the excitement, Bojo has three restaurants to sample incredible Ghanaian and continental dishes from. There’s also free wifi and an outdoor pool for when you want to take a break from the sand and sea. It’s truly a place to add to your itinerary when visiting Ghana.

2. Labadi Beach/LA Pleasure Beach

If you’re looking for a beach where the party proverbially never stops then you’re looking for LA Pleasure Beach (pronounced la, not L-A). There’s a reason that LA Pleasure Beach is one of the busiest beaches on the country’s coast. There are numerous restaurants that seem to be closely placed near each other each offering their own twist of food. Aside from restaurants, LA Pleasure Beach also seems to have various other types of vendors all selling all kinds of delectable tourist bait. Even locals tend to dig deep into their purses when some of these artisans bring their culture-rich creations around.

It's quite easy to have a good time at LA Pleasure Beach in a group. You can simply grab a table and an umbrella and enjoy the fresh air and delicious food, as well as any games that you might bring along.

There’s one final thing about the LA Pleasure Beach that can absolutely not go without being mentioned and that’s just how much it comes alive at night. At night the Beach lends itself to beautiful parties around bonfires with live bands playing in the background or Disco and pop DJs performing their sets.

3. Kokrobite Beach

Kokrobite is a town that lies a scenic car ride (about thirty kilometers) outside of the city center of Accra. Kokrobite Beach is very much a tourist beach and is frequented by foreigners, usually volunteer workers. Kokrobite Beach provides a certain comfort away from home for visitors. The scenery is beautiful and easy to get lost in, and the Ghanaians around are some of the friendliest that you’ll encounter. You can usually find people surfing in the water, swimming or playing football in the sand. The restaurants along the beach serve Ghanaian delicacies that’ll give you the perfect taste of Ghanaian cuisine.

It's advisable not to wander the beach too late, but early evening strolls along the beach are enough to melt most problems away. On Friday nights and the weekends, you can catch some live music and immersive cultural performances at Big Milly’s Backyard, a resort on the beach.

4. The Luxury Beach Resort

The view of the lights of Luxury Beach Resort lit up at night is enough to take anyone’s breath away. Luxury Beach Resort is really a place to visit for couples and families. The resort creates the perfect air of romance, and there is enough security around that you do not have to worry about losing yourself in the night. Luxury Beach is located at Old Bortiano on the Krokrobite Road and the atmosphere here is always more on the side of serene and cool instead of rowdy and up-tempo. That’s not to say that there aren’t activities to keep things exciting.

You can go on a boat ride, go horse riding along the beach or even liven things up a bit on the volleyball court. Although meals here tend to be priced higher than other beach resorts, you’re hardly going to regret spending on the food at Luxury Beach Resort.

5. Laboma Beach

When you hear Laboma you know it’s time for a beach party. Although it can be a mellow and serene place to be during the weekend, Laboma Beach is quite notorious for hosting some big bashes including music festivals such as Afronation Ghana and other parties featuring international Ghanaian superstars like Kidi. Laboma Beach is located in La off the La-Teshie Road, opposite the Teshie Rasta Road Junction.

In addition to all of that Laboma Beach is also a clean environment with incredibly friendly staff. And what else can you ask for other than moderate prices and good food? These are two more reasons that you should visit.
